More Noisy Neighbours Silenced

Police and Environmental Health Officers from the Vale of Glamorgan have served a warrant on a resident in the Court area of Barry who persistently played loud music at all hours of the day and night.

As a result of the warrant two televisions, a Karaoke machine, stereo systems and a wide range of DVDs and CDs were seized and removed from the premises. The warrant was obtained from the Courts following a number of official warnings and the service of an Abatement Notice. The resident breached the Notice and a decision was taken to seize the appliances to prevent further nuisance.

Police Constable Mike Hawkes the Vale of Glamorgan’s Anti Social behaviour Coordinator, said: “In collaboration with our partners in Safer Vale we have been able to gather sufficient evidence to serve a noise abatement notice to the resident concerned. As the notice was breached, the decision was taken to obtain a warrant from the Courts and remove a wide range of equipment from the premises in order to prevent any further recurrence of the incidents. “This is the second time within a month that we have been able to take this type of positive action. Anti social behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated and I would urge residents who feel they are victims of noise pollution to contact the Vale of Glamorgan’s Environmental Health Department so steps can be taken to remedy the matter at an early stage.”

Vale of Glamorgan Council team leader (pollution control) Kristian James said: “Why should residents suffer from continual noise exposure, affecting their everyday lives? The majority of complaints received by the Pollution Department are related to noise nuisance. If a nuisance is witnessed an Abatement Notice will be served to prohibit any further occurrence. “If the Notice is breached, a warrant can be obtained from the Courts and the noise making equipment will be seized. It may be held indefinitely, pending outcome of a Prosecution and Forfeiture Order.” As part of the continuing programme of support for the ward, PCSO Toni Treweeks and other members of the Court Neighbourhood Policing Team will hold a police surgery on Daniel Street between 5.00pm and 6.00pm on Thursday 11 December and again on Thursday 18 December at the same time.
